The Montreux Jazz Festival is an annual event that takes place every summer Switzerland. It is located on the shores of the beautiful Lake Geneva. It was created in 1967 by Claude Nobs. The Montreux Jazz Festival has become over the years an essential event for all lover of great music. Over the years it generated many great stories and legendary performances. It attracts almost 250,000 spectators every year. Join them and enjoy a breathtaking lake location, concerts with renowned acoustics and many free stages.
The festival has ambitious programming choices and musical diversity. Most importantly they offer warm welcomes, thus offering a privileged experience to musicians and the public. However, it is a platform for creative freedom. Some of the artists completely remake their concerts just for Montreux, while others shine at the Festival’s legendary jam sessions and offer fascinating workshops for you to enjoy.
Montreux has hosted some truly legendary performances by famous artists such as: Nina Simone, Miles Davis, Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Prince, David Bowie, Elton John and Stevie Wonder. Deep Purple and Prince even helped to write the legend of the place in their songs. David Bowie and Freddie Mercury at one point even came to live in the region and record albums.
While jazz, soul and blues are at the roots of this event, other styles of music find their place, anchored by artistic encounters and unique experiments. In recent years they hosted many famous artists such as: Radiohead, Pharrell Williams, Ed Sheeran, Alicia Keys, Adele, Lady Gaga, Lizzo and many more. There is truly something for every music lover.
After the festival was canceled due to coronavirus COVID-19, it is returning in 2021 stronger than ever!
