Where It All Began: The Roots of Freshtival Weekend

Freshtival Weekend made its debut in 2009 with just 3,000 visitors – a humble beginning that quickly sparked something huge. That first edition already featured major names like Chuckie and Erick E, setting the tone for what would evolve into one of the Netherlands’ most vibrant music festivals.

From those early days, the festival kept growing and surprising its crowd. Highlights followed year after year: the beloved silent disco in 2017, a global sensation when Sean Paul took the stage in 2018, and a show-stopping performance by Jason Derulo in 2019. In 2023, an explosive finale by Radical Redemption shook the main stage to its core, proving once again that Freshtival never stops raising the bar.

What began as a small regional gathering has transformed into a massive celebration, now attracting over 64,000 visitors from across the Netherlands and beyond.

At the center of this evolution is Koen Bredeveld, the visionary founder and CEO. Born in Enschede – the very home of Freshtival – Koen’s turbulent youth inspired a passion for bringing people together through music. Starting with small parties and local DJ nights, he eventually stepped into the spotlight in 2009 as the creative director of Absolutely Fresh, the powerhouse behind Freshtival and several other concept-driven festivals.

From 3,000 to 64,000 and still rising – the story of Freshtival Weekend is one of pure energy, passion, and unstoppable growth.

🗺️ How to Get There: Bikes, Shuttles, and Road Trips

At Freshtival Weekend, your arrival and departure are all taken care of, so you can fully relax! Convenient shuttle buses run continuously between Enschede Central Station and the festival campsite, ensuring you can travel smoothly and focus on enjoying the experience.

Driving in by car? Set your GPS to Haaksbergerstraat 1010, 7548 PC Enschede to get started. Once you see the yellow Freshtival signs, turn off your GPS and follow them. Make sure to grab your parking tickets in advance from the official ticket shop – it’ll save you time!

Festival-goers can also pedal to Freshtival like a true Dutchies. Free bike parking is near the entrance, but park smart or it gets towed!
