About the Festival

Brännbollsyran festival is a successful festival in Umeå that has grown to become northern Sweden’s largest music festival. In 2022 the festival broke attendance records with 17,000 tickets sold per day. During the day, the WC in brännball is arranged at Mariehemsängarna and University Campus, where around 300 teams and thousands of players participate in the folk festival. In the evening, the festival is arranged at beautiful Hedlunda in central Umeå.

Brännbollsyran started in 1974, so the festival will be celebrating 50th anniversary in 2024! It all started as a brännball cup for students at Umeå University. The cup grew during the 80s and 90s, received WC status in 1997 and now thousands participate each year.

Nowadays, Brännbollsyran is one of Sweden’s absolute biggest festivals and a number of world stars visit Umeå every year. Major international and Swedish artists such as Tiësto, Macklemore, The Chainsmokers, Kygo, Marshmello, Martin Garrix, Future, Zara Larsson, Veronica Maggio, Tove Lo, and many more, have played the festival in recent years.
